Nutella Peanut Butter Rice Krispies Treats with Lucky Charms

Rice Krispies Treats have to be one of my favorite snacks to make. It requires very few ingredients and you don't even have to turn on the oven (you do however have to use the stove). I added a few things to my Rice Krispies to make them extra special and extra tasty. Take a look!

*Makes: 16 pieces

Ingredients
  • 4-6 cups (150g) Rice Krispies cereal
  • 3 tablespoons (40g) unsalted butter
  • 10 ounces (285 grams) marshmallows
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup (260g) peanut butter
  • 1 cup (140g) nutella
  • 1/2 cup (90g) chocolate chips (or a chocolate bar broken up into pieces)
  • a handful of Lucky Charms Marshmallows

Directions

Step 1: First, put down foil on your pan and then add cooking spray so that your treats don't stick when they are ready (foil is optional, you can just spray your pan, but I don't like to make a huge mess).

Step 2: Heat a small-medium saucepan on medium heat and add your butter. Once your butter has melted, then slowly add the marshmallows. Be sure not to add them all at once because they might stick to the sides of your saucepan and/or burn.

Step 3: Once all the marshmallows have melted, take the saucepan away from the heat. Add vanilla and stir. Add your rice krispies into a large bowl followed by the marshmallow/vanilla mixture. Let it sit for a few minutes considering it is very hot.

Step 4: Mix with a wooden spoon or wear latex gloves. Add Lucky Charms Marshmallows now (optional), and stir one last time. (tip: to keep everything from sticking to the wooden spoon, spray before with cooking spray)

Step 5: Put your mixture into your greased pan and pat down on all sides so that it is an even surface. You can use a sheet of grease-proof paper over the mixture and press it down, or you can just use the back side of the wooden spoon; your choice.

Step 6: Put the treats into the freezer to harden.

Step 7: Next, put your peanut butter into a small-medium saucepan and put it on medium-low heat. Keep stirring until peanut butter has completely melted. Do not let sit without stirring or peanut butter may burn at the bottom of the saucepan.

Step 8: Take rice krispies out of the freezer and add the peanut on top. Smooth out with a wooden spoon or spatula so that the top is an even surface again. Place them back in the freezer. (I would have taken a photo of me pouring the peanut butter onto the rice krispie mixture but I dropped my phone right on top, face down, into the peanut butter...)

Step 9: Next, heat up your nutella and chocolate chip combination in the microwave for 30 second blasts each. After each 30 second blast, stir the chocolate (it should only take about 3 blasts for everything to be completely melted). Spread over peanut butter (make sure peanut butter has hardened a bit so the 2 don't mix, you want 2 different layers).

Step 10: Put back in the freezer for another 1-2 hours. Cut into squares and enjoy!
